Abstract: The talk is devoted to the investigations of electromagnetic field in diffraction problems by complex-shaped bodies, particularly in the neighborhood of boundary edges of metallic and metal-dielectric bodies, and edges formed by planes of discontinuity in permittivity. Based on the method for constructing an asymptotic (in terms of smoothness) representation of the solution of an elliptic differential equation in the vicinity of a singular point of the boundary, firstly elaborated by V.A. Kondratiev, there is proposed a method for obtaining an asymptotic (in terms of smoothness) representation of the electromagnetic field in the neighborhood of boundary edges and discontinuities in the permittivity for a wide range of linear electromagnetic diffraction problems. The electromagnetic field is represented as the sum of a singular and smooth part, and an estimate is obtained for the smooth part in the corresponding norm.
