Yu. S. Nalbandjan

Abstract: Our talk is devoted to the memory of famous scientists, historians of science, with whom the author had the opportunity to communicate in different years. Their fates were connected with the Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg) branch of the S.I. Vavilov Institute for the History of Science and Technology of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In fact, from the moment the Leningrad branch was founded until the end of her life, Judith Khaimovna Kopelevich (1921 – 2009) worked at the Institute. She went from being a translator of Latin texts to a leading specialist in the history of the 18th century Academy of Sciences, widely known and respected in the world scientific community. Elena Petrovna Ozhigova (1923 – 1994), author of scientific biographies of famous scientists, author and co-author of excellent monographs on the history of various branches of mathematics, the history of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences and Academies of other countries, worked at the Institute from 1964 until her sudden death. Nina Ivanovna Nevskaya (1931 – 2006) and Galina Pavlovna Matviyevskaya (1930 – 2025) entered the postgraduate program of the Institute in 1954. Nina Ivanovna became a recognized specialist in the field of the history of the Russian astronomical school. hLike her colleagues, she worked in Leningrad – St. Petersburg until the last days of her life. Galina Pavlovna moved to Tashkent in 1959, became one of the leading experts in the field of mathematics of the Medieval East, was elected an academician of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, and spent the last years of her life in Orenburg. The speech will examine the key events in the lives of these scientists, provide an overview of their main works, and part of the time will be devoted to the speaker's memoirs.
