Polyakov's Formalism for Random Surfaces and Liouville Theory A. Andronova |
|||
|
Abstract: We will examine the formalism developed by Polyakov in his 1981 paper for calculating sums over random surfaces that arise in all problems involving gauge invariance. These sums reduce to an exactly solvable quantum theory of the two-dimensional Liouville Lagrangian. At D = 26, string dynamics corresponds to the dynamics of harmonic oscillators, as was previously predicted by dual theorists; otherwise, it is described by a nonlinear integrable theory. |
