Abstract: Following the recent work of Susanna Zimmermann, I will explain why the abelianisation of the group of birational automorphisms of the real projective plane is isomorphic to $\bigoplus_{\mathbb{R}}\mathbb{Z}/2\mathbb{Z}$.
