Abstract: I will talk about some remarkable approximation properties of varieties over function fields of complex curves. We will discuss general results about weak approximation of rationally connected varieties at places of good reduction. The main technical challenge is the places of bad reduction, i.e. singular fibers of a model. We shall survey situations where the fibers can be successfully analyzed, or where the global geometry ensures weak approximation. |
