Abstract: I will briefly describe scalar-tensor theories (Horndeski theory, beyond Horndeski theory, DHOST theories, etc.), why they are needed, and how they can be used in early Universe cosmology and in constructing stable compact solutions. I will also show which scalar-vector-tensor theories are obtained via dimensional reduction and discuss the properties of these theories.
