Spectral form factors in normal mode models

V. V. Pushkarev

Abstract: The spectral form factor along with the level spacing distribution is supposed to be a measure for chaotic behaviour of quantum systems. For ensembles of random matrices, it exhibits a universal dip-ramp-plateau structure. The same structure was recently identified in the spectral form factor calculated for normal modes of a scalar field on a BTZ black hole background with a stretched horizon, where normal modes are defined by imposing Dirichlet boundary conditions. In this talk, we consider a massive scalar field on the BTZ background, contrast with the de Sitter case to probe the dependence on the sign of curvature, and explore the generalized spectral form factors that capture correlations beyond two levels.
