Higher-order traps in landscapes of mean-observable maximization problems

B. O. Volkov

Abstract: An important problem in quantum control theory is the study of the existence of traps in the quantum landscape, i.e., controls that hinder the performance of local search algorithms. These can be points of local but not global extrema of the objective function, as well as so-called higher-order traps, which are defined using the Taylor expansion of the objective function. The talk will discuss such traps in the landscapes of problems involving the maximization of the average value of quantum observables.
