Abstract: Studying necessity of ships movement features in small and medium floes has arisen recently in connection with plans of the heavy-tonnage ships wide use in Arctic. Its width essentially exceeds width of existing nowadays icebreakers. The new tactical schemes including conducting of one heavy-tonnage ship by two icebreakers or it movement in parallel channel laided by icebreaker are developed for effective ships conducting in ices. Both in that and in other cases the ship should move in small and medium floes. Earlier for calculation of ships ice resistance in these conditions the empirical formula was used. In the report the method of ice resistances calculation, based on the decision of the differential equation of ice floes fragments movement in the course of their interaction with the ship hull, is offered. The developed technique can be applied and at calculation of the forces interacting on the ships hull, moving in parallel channel laided by the icebreaker.

Keywords: small floes, medium floes, pack ice, lead in ice, icebreaker.
