Determination of guided modes in multilayer dielectric waveguides

Abstract: An efficient numerical method is proposed to determine the guided modes in multilayer waveguides. The method is of high computational efficiency due to the determination of a good initial approximation at the first stage of computations. Some numerical results are discussed for several guiding structures and are compared with data obtained by other authors.
