Abstract: Recent theoretical and experimental results on new synthetic metals–Bechgaard's salts–are reviewed. Superconductivity has been observed in these organic compounds for the first time. Furthermore, these materials exhibit such a variety of new and unusual physical properties that research on them is opening up a new branch of solid state physics.
