Abstract: The idea of using magnetic induction in solid magnetized iron for determination of the momentum of penetrating charged particles of high energy, proposed by D. V. Skobel'tsyn in 1929, is set forth. The principal scientific results in cosmic-ray and high-energy physics obtained using the magnetic induction of magnetized iron and the prospects for its application in new areas are presented.
