Abstract: The storage and confinement of charged particles and antiparticles (electrons, positrons, ions) in open traps and storage rings of various designs are considered. Experiments on positron storage in the Penning – Malmberg – Surko trap in the Low-Energy Particle Toroidal Accumulator (LEPTA) are described in detail.

Keywords: Paul trap, Penning – Malmberg – Surko trap, electrons, ions, positrons, antihydrogen, positronium, storage, rotating electric field.
