Abstract:
The effect of the rate at which a solid phase forms and of the Grashof numbers on the intensity of the convective motion of a melt in a rectangular region is studied. It is established that the solidification kinetics of the melt substantially affects thermal convection only in the case of high-temperature fluids. The nature of the variation of the rate for two Prandtl numbers is studied as a function of the Grashof numbers, and the instability limits of the solution are determined.
