On the approximation of binomial distributions by means oi infinitely divisible ones

Abstract: For the binomial and symmetrized binomial distributions with arbitrary values of parameters we find the infinitely divisible distributions which give good approximations in variation. It is proved that the order of approximation cannot be improved even for the uniform distance.
