Connection between the Einstein–Maxwell equations and the self-duality equations for gauge fields

Abstract: An analysis is made of the possibility of the existence of a one-to-one correspondence between the Einstein–Maxwell equations and the selfduality equations for static axisymmetric $SU(3)$ gauge fields in a gauge that reduces to the sigma-model representation on a noncompact symmetric space of the type AIII.
