Abstract:
It is shown that in a strong field the Goryachev–Chaplygin top behaves like a twodimensional harmonic oscillator with frequency ratio 1:2. Moreover, the second integral of the motion of the top goes over into the separation constant for the 2-oscillator in parabolic coordinates in the momentum space. The diagram
correlating the energy levels of the top in the limits of weak and strong fields is
found.
