On the problem of the fundamental characteristics of the motion of a continuous medium

V. N. Zhigulev

Abstract: The general results of an earlier investigation [Teor. Mat. Fiz., 7, 106 (1971)] are used to analyze special cases of the motion of a perfect gas with fluctuations. A detailed investigation is made of the completely homogeneous case and also the case of homogeneous and isotropic motion. Expressions are found for the pressure tensor, the heat flux vector, and the entropy; it is shown that the lifetime of fluctuations is directly related to their linear dimensions. The results are discussed from the point of view of their application to the theory of turbulence. They are also analyzed from the point of view of the general problem of obtaining the fundamental characteristics that determine the motion of a continuous medium.
