Influence of electron-phonon interaction on the motion of an electron in a one-dimensional molecular system

A. S. Davydov

Abstract: The influence of the electron-phonon interaction on the motion of an electron in a onedimensional molecular chain is investigated. It is shown that in the case of strong interaction the motion of the electron with velocity less than the velocity of a longitudinal acoustic wave in the chain is accompanied by the motion of a local deformation and has a quasisuperconducting nature. In molecular chains with large anharmonicity, it is possible to have the formation of acoustic solitons, which are displaced with velocity exceeding the velocity of sound. Such solitons can participate in the electron transport. It is suggested that the investigated phenomena could play a part in biological processes in the transport of molecules through protein molecules from donor to acceptor molecules.
