On the index of boundary value problems for degenerate elliptic operators

Abstract: In this paper the method of “gluing” boundary value problems along a boundary is worked out. Using this, the index of some classes of degenerate elliptic operators and problems is calculated. The method is also applied to compute the index of operators with discontinuous coefficients.
