Characteristically nilpotent Lie algebras

Abstract: We prove the existence of a nonempty Zariski open subset consisting of characteristically nilpotent Lie algebras in the variety of structures of nilpotent Lie algebras of dimension $\geqslant12$. We construct vast families of characteristically nilpotent Lie algebras of arbitrary dimension $\geqslant7$.
