Abstract:
Data on the synthesis of thioaldehydes, a little investigated class of organic sulphur compounds, are described systematically and surveyed. Various types of relatively unstable thioaldehydes and thioaldehydes stabilised by electronic and steric factors are examined. Their physical, spectroscopic, and chemical properties are discussed. The important role of thioformyl compounds as intermediates and synthons is demonstrated. The bibliography includes 92 references.
