Short-range Order and Local Displacements of the Atoms in Non-stoichiometric Compounds

Abstract: Published data on the local distribution of the atoms and their displacements in non-stoichiometric transition metal carbides and nitrides have been reviewed. The phenomena of short-range order in disordered and ordered non-stoichiometric compounds, and their solid solutions, have been discussed in detail. Data on the static displacements of the atoms in disordered carbides and nitrides have been analysed. The possibilities for the further study of the distribution of the atoms in non-stoichiometric compounds have been discussed.
