Abstract:
The results of studies on the morphology and phase structure of polymeric colloid particles formed in the latex copolymerisation and seeded polymerisation of various monomeric compositions are surveyed. The role of the polar interactions at the interface and of the mobility of polymer molecules as factors influencing the location of the functional groups, the orientation of the macrochains, and the inversion of the polymer phases in the colloidal particles is discussed. The relation between the structure of the particles, on the one hand, and the colloidal behaviour of the system, the mechanism of film formation and the physical properties of the segregated polymers, on the other, is examined.
