Abstract: Data on the chemisorption of oxygen on a number of metals (Pt, Pd, Ir, Ru, Ni, etc.), obtained by SED, EAS, XES, etc., have been reviewed. The bond energies and principal properties of the two types of O_ads on metals (non-reconstructive and reconstructive), and also the conditions for the realisation of each type of adsorption, have been examined.
