Abstract:
Results obtained during 1960–1979 on the effect of the size of a saturated or partly hydrogenated carbo- or hetero-cycle on the physicochemical (spectral, polarographic, ionisation) and chemical properties of cyclic compounds are summarised. Attention is paid mainly to the usual (C5–C7) cyclic systems. Results are interpreted in terms of classical strain theory, the I-strain concept, and the Finnegan–Streitwieser rehybridisation model. A list of 173 references is included.
