Abstract: Problems associated with the steps of electrochemical discharge and ionisation reactions of metals in aqueous solutions are discussed. Data on the radiation-chemical preparation of metals in unusual and unstable states of oxidation are reported. The results of studies of the physicochemical properties of these species in aqueous solutions and of their reactions with organic and with inorganic compounds are generalised. The effect of metal ions in unusual and unstable states of oxidation on the elementary steps of electrode reactions is discussed. 162 references.
