Diastereotopy in Transition Metal Complexes

G. B. Shul'pin

Institute of Chemical Physics of the USSR Academy of Sciences, Moscow

Abstract: Cases of diastereotopy – the stereochemical non-equivalence of atoms or groups within a single molecule – in transition metal complexes are examined. The application of the concept of diastereotopy, introduced into stereochemistry several years ago, makes it possible to interpret correctly complex nuclear magnetic resonance spectra and to reach on their basis conclusions about the fine structure of the molecule. Instances of the diastereotopy of the atoms of coordinated ligands and other groups in π-complexes are classified.
