Abstract: The present state of the problem of bifunctional catalysis is considered and the influence of all possible factors (the structures of the reactants and catalysts, temperature, the properties of the medium, etc.) on the efficiency of bifunctional catalysts is discussed. The general characteristics of both the simplest bifunctional catalysts and enzymes are specified.
