Abstract:
In order to clarify the phenomenon of non-photoactive absorption in molecular solids we have analysed the relationship between the spectra of photoelectric phenomena in selenium and the molecular (and supermolecular) structures of selenium. Non-photoactive absorption is shown to arise from the photo-generation of charge carriers through the state of bound electron–hole pairs (excitons), which is structure-sensitive and dependent on quantum energy, temperature, and applied field intensity. 109 references.
