Abstract:
Methods are described for the calculation of the principal physical characteristics of polymers from data for the chemical structure of the repeating polymer unit. These characteristics include the density, coefficient of thermal expansion, glass point, melting point, refractive index, coefficient of optical sensitivity to stress, and the solubility parameters of low-molecular-weight liquids and polymers. A consistent relation between these characteristics and the chemical structure of polymers has been traced. The bibliography includes 27 references.
