Abstract:
The review is devoted to the properties of 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane, one of the strongest of the known organic π acids. Data concerning the methods of synthesis of 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane and its analogues and the physicochemical properties of compounds of this series are surveyed. The addition, substitution, and complex formation reactions of 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane, its spectroscopic, electrical, and magnetic properties, and the structures of its complexes and radical-ion salts with organic and inorganic electron donors are examined. The bibliography includes 232 references.
