Abstract:
Modern data concerning the wide variety of the physical and chemical properties of organofluorine compounds are reviewed. The studies in recent years, carried out using non-empirical quantum-mechanical calculations, photoelectronic spectroscopy, 19F and 13C NMR, as well as other latest research techniques, have introduced a number of refinements into ideas on the effect of fluorine atoms on the properties of both stable molecules and reaction intermediates. The principal fields of practical application of organofluorine compounds are also examined. New data on the methods of introducing fluorine into organic molecules are presented in the concluding section. The bibliography includes 227 references.
