Abstract:
Research results obtained on radiation-chemical processes in crystals of inorganic salts having composite anions (nitrates, sulphates, oxyhalides, etc.) containing various chemical impurities are analysed. The effect of water of crystallisation on the mechanism of the radiolysis and on the radiation-chemical resistance of inorganic compounds is examined. The role of heterophase additives (of a mixture of inorganic substances), the conditions of exposure, and the mechanism of transfer of energy in irradiated systems are discussed. The contributions of various factors (ionisation potentials of lattice ions, electron affinity of radiolysis products, lattice parameters, electrophysical properties of impurities, etc.) to the radiolysis of inorganic salts are estimated. Possible ways of controlling the radiation resistance of exposed materials are discussed. The bibliography includes 121 references.
