Abstract: The most important studies on the chemistry of anaesthetics during the last decade are reviewed. Anaesthetics belonging to different classes of organic compounds (aminoalcohol esters, aminoamides, aminoacid amides, aminoketones, etc.) are considered mainly in terms of the relation between structure and physiological activity. Much attention has been devoted to the consideration of the available literature data on the mechanism of the action of anaesthetics.
