Abstract:
The review deals with modern achievements in the chemistry of unsaturated carbohydrates. The methods of synthesis of these compounds, their use for the preparation of compounds of other classes, and in a few cases their properties have been analysed. A systematic account is given of the available data on the basis of the method employed, i.e. on the basis of the reactions used to form multiple bonds. The methods for the elimination of various groups, Grignard syntheses, the Knoevenagel–Doebner condensation, and the Wittig reaction are analysed in succession. Considerable attention has been devoted to the discussion of conformational effects and reaction mechanisms. The bibliography includes 204 references.
