Abstract:
An attempt is made to assemble data for various branches of organic and biological chemistry which can be related directly to the ideas of topology. Consideration is given to problems of topological isomerism and the topological chemical bond, as well as to routes for the synthesis of molecules similar in structure to various geometrical figures. Special attention is paid to catenanes, rotaxanes (hooplanes), and knots. Information is given on the occurrence of topological structures and mechanisms in Nature. A list of 117 references is included.
