Abstract: The structural data for various classes of cyclic organophosphorus compounds published up to 1972 are systematically reviewed. The geometrical parameters are classified in accordance with the concepts of the valence states of atoms in the molecule and the types of chemical bonds. The dependence of bond lengths and valence angles in various cyclic systems on the number of atoms in the latter is discussed. Endocyclic parameters are compared with exocyclic parameters and also with the corresponding parameters of acyclic structures. Such comparison makes it possible, in particular, to characterise the influence of exocyclic substituents on cyclic systems which is sometimes reflected in a considerable change of the geometrical parameters. The results of studies on the conformational relations in cyclic phosphorus-containing structures are described.
