Abstract: Investigations on complexing adsorption chromatography during its period of existence (1954–1970) are reviewed, and possible ways for its future development are considered. The method was developed originally for preparing the extremely pure salts used in the production of phosphors, and then grew to be a general method of separating substances, enabling the most selective processes to be accomplished by simple procedures. However, widespread introduction of the method is hindered by the absence of published summaries covering technique, theory, and fields of application. The present review covers these aspects, and will enable research workers to apply the method correctly and to extend its field of use in the laboratory and in industry.
