Abstract:
The methods of preparation of simple and double rare-earth fluorides both in the normal, tervalent state and in bivalent and quadrivalent states have been examined. The structures of these compounds, their polymorphic modifications, and the characteristics of the formation of solid solutions are discussed. The physicochemical properties of fluorine-containing rare-earth compounds have been compared with the type of chemical bonding and the characteristics of the electronic structure of rare-earth atoms. Data are presented on the behaviour of rare-earth fluorides in systems containing the fluorides and oxides of other elements. The bibliography includes 372 references.
