Abstract:
This review deals with the methods of correlation analysis which have been applied to studies of the kinetics of free-radical reactions. It discusses the use of the Hammett and the Taft equation, of the Alfrey–Price scheme, of the Bamford equation, and also the correlations with quantum-mechanical parameters and various additive empirical methods. Polar and resonance effects in free-radical reactions are quantitatively separated by a two-parameter scheme based on the Taft equation. The relationship between the structure of the transition state and the reactivity of the free radicals is considered. 265 references.
