Abstract: Problems of the determination of the anionic composition of melts of condensed phosphates and the application of the "theory of the disordered reorganisation of condensed polymers" (Flory, Van Wazer) to them are considered. The part played by water in the formation and breakdown of polymeric chains and rings is noted. The liquidus diagrams of systems based on condensed phosphates of various anionic compositions are reviewed and compounds formed in the system are noted. The physical properties of phosphate melts (mainly surface tension, density, and their temperature coefficients) and their dependence on the type of equilibrium diagram, melt composition, and generalised moments of the cations and anions are examined. It is concluded that the interparticle interaction of polyphosphates in the liquid phase is reflected in their volume and surface properties. 157 references.
