Abstract:
The review deals with the literature on the nitrohalogenation of unsaturated compounds by addition to the latter of nitryl and nitrosyl halides and by the reaction of the unsaturated compounds with mixtures of nitrogen tetroxide and halogens. The condensation of nitro-alkanes with halogeno-carbonyl compounds, the nitration of halogeno-derivatives of aliphatic hydrocarbons, and the halogenation of nitro-compounds have also been described. Work on the reaction of polyhalogeno-alkanes with metal nitrites and the replacement of a carboxy-group by a halogen and a nitro-group have been reviewed. Dehydrohalogenation, dehalogenation, and also reactions involving the substitution of the halogen atoms have been examined in the analysis of the chemical properties of halogenonitro-compounds. The review also deals with work on the reactions of halogenonitro-compounds with participation of the nitro-group. A brief report is given on the applications of halogenonitro-compounds.
