Abstract:
Data concerning the chemical processes occurring under light irradiation of complexes of aromatic amines with polyhalomethanes are critically reviewed. It is shown that electron transfer from an amine to a halomethane is the main photochemical reaction of the complexes. The properties and reactions of primary radical-ion species and secondary inter-mediates formed are discussed. The mechanisms of photo-induced formation of triphenylmethane dyes and acridine derivatives are considered in detail. The bibliography includes 234 references.
