Abstract: The results of non-empirical quantum-chemical calculations for silicon, phosphorus, and sulfur compounds of different structure are discussed. Qualitative orbital models, which establish a relation between the distribution of electrons and molecular structure and properties, are analysed. A general definition of stereoelectronic effects is presented. The bibliography includes 176 references.
