Abstract:
Exact solution of the kinetic equation with a one-dimensional averaged Keilson–Storer kernel is used to calculate the nonlinear polarizability of the active medium of a ring laser allowing for complete trapping of resonance radiation. An analysis is made of the extent to which the relationships obtained differ from the known results of the theory based on the model of strong collisions. It is shown that radiation trapping may reduce significantly the instability zone of the two-wave stimulated emission.
