Abstract:
An analysis is made of the propagation of light in a corrugated dielectric waveguide when the grating vector and direction of wave propagation in the waveguide are noncollinear. For this case, expressions are obtained for the attenuation of the waveguide modes due to emission of light into media adjacent to the waveguide. It is shown that processes which change the polarization of the emitted waves play an important part in this case.
