Abstract: The geometric-optics approximation is used in an analysis of the energy relationships governing counterpropagating spherical beams under steady-state stimulated Brillouin scattering (STBS) conditions. An experimental investigation is reported of an oscillator–amplifier phase-conjugating mirror relying on STBS in nonlinear media of CCl4 and GLS22P glass. These results are used in derivation of relationships describing the energetics of the operation of such mirrors in a wide range of pump energy densities (up to 12 J/cm2). It is shown experimentally that the efficiency of a phase-conjugating mirror made of GLS22P glass can be increased by shifting the frequency of an acoustic resonance in an STBS amplifier.
