Abstract:
A study was made of the optical strength (at the wavelength of 1.06 μm) of LiF crystals before and after coloration by γ-ray bombardment. The optical breakdown thresholds were determined under different focusing conditions. It was found that the γ-ray coloration process did not result in deterioration of the optical strength of LiF crystals subjected to weakly focused radiation and it increased the breakdown threshold in the strong focusing case. Possible damage mechanisms were analyzed.
