Investigation of the stimulated radiation emitted by Nd³⁺ ions in CaSc₂O₄ crystals

Abstract: Stimulated emission from Nd³⁺ ions in a crystal of CaSc₂O₄ was observed at 77 and 300°K. The emission was in the form of lines due to two transitions ⁴F_3/2–⁴I_11/2 and ⁴F_3/2–⁴I_13/2 with low excitation thresholds. Some spectroscopic parameters of this new laser medium were determined.
